This report explores efforts to support the European railroad industry's recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. First, the effects of the pandemic were described. Then, a summary was given of the high-level workshop "Railways at the centre of the post-pandemic recovery - Connectivity through the railways" held during the seventy-fifth session of the Working Party on Rail Transport. Next, several examples of individual European country response policies were examined. In general, countries adopted varying incentives and responses to adjust for steep declines in passenger numbers and increased costs for health provision compliance during the pandemic. It was concluded that a pan-European approach is needed to help the railroad sector cope with and rebuild from pandemic-related disruptions.
